Still walking

Good Morning Y'all,

Still exploring the Decatur area and enjoying the sights.  Mike and I have signed up for the world's largest 10K run/walk.  This would be the Peachtree 10K which will have 55,000 other peeps walking/running with us!   And I thought the Bellin 10K was crowded.  The date is July 4th and starts at 7:30am......one of the hottest days of the year.   Hopefully we'll be more acclimated by then ;-)   We are heading to Stone Mountain to walk around this great stone.  They have a nice 5 mile loop.

Have a super week and I'll touch base soon...........one step at a time!

lots of riding

Ahoy!

It's been a couple of weeks filled with many walks and many more bicycle rides.  Still exploring the area and starting to work on business plans for tours, pedicabs and lots more.  Made some initial contacts with Decatur officials, had 2 meetings with a bicycle tour owner, taught some bicycle education, and have a meeting week after next with Atlanta Bicycle Campaign people.

So, keeping busy and still looking into the medical center job posting too.  Applied for 3 positions at De Kalb Medical and putting out the vibe for an interview ;-)

Enjoying some very nice weather, upper 70s and wonderful upper 50s for night rides.  Cooling off to the 60s in the next few days.  Alright people, have a wonderful day and I'm out the door......

What a Week!

Hi!

Wow, what a week........the last box is unpacked!!!!   And had a couple of days dealing with internet installation and then getting my Airport to work throughout the apartment....but all worth the effort cause now I'm mobile and connected ;-)

Mike and I got out each day to walk - routed out 5 walks with mileage from 1.8 to 5.3    So that should hold me for awhile.   Loving the weather here - that is until today.  It snowed, and snowed and then snowed some more - very pretty and very surreal.   But, Friday's temp is going to be 70 so I best find my shorts for walking ;-)

Okay people, have a great walkable week!  Oh, found my camera and will get some pics posted soon........

Ahhh

Ahhh, what a great few days it's been.  Lots of visiting with Ben, Karen and trying new places to eat.  Got a couple of walks in around the neighborhood - found a nice coffee shop called Dancing Goats........lots of college kids studying and folks just hanging out.

All of us went to an interactive experience called "Dialogue in the Dark"........puts you in an environment simulating complete darkness and giving you a "glimpse" into the world of the blind.  If it comes to your city - GO!

This coming weeks starts the settling into our new apartment, and getting some walks marked off with the Garmin for distance.  Lots of hills here folks ;-)

Ta Da!

Alright!  The moving trailer is empty and it's outta here........Ben came into town today and helped with the final pieces.  We even have the spare bedroom pretty much set up for him to use the next few days.

I did get a walk in by walking to the MARTA train station and walking thru the airport.  It's nice having the whole family together, not sure how much walking will be done in the next few days, but I'll make the effort.

Till then, have a super weekend!

more boxes!

Good Morning!

Ahhh, nothing better than a great walk to start the day ;-)  Today's walk was a trek to a potential employer - DeKalb Medical Center located less than 2 miles from our house.  Mike and I did a direct route to our destination which included some busy street traffic.  On the way back we walked side streets which was much more pleasant.    Now all I have to do is secure employment and I'll have a easy walk or bicycle commute.

More boxes to unpack today, but I am seeing an end, PLUS our son, Ben is flying in tomorrow to help move some very heavy pieces from the trailer.

Have a fantastic day, walk on!!

Boxes

Hi!  Today was a wonderful day - started off with a walk thru a nearby cemetery.  Did the outer loop of this 52 acre final resting spot.  No traffic, lots of trees, some hills, nice people walking too.
Did about 3 miles total trip.

Then, some upper body work moving and unpacking boxes ;-)  Getting the feel of our new place and actually putting some artwork on the walls.  Finished off the day with a nice little bicycle ride around the neighborhood - what a great way to explore your surroundings!

keep on walking,
Marty

Birthday Girl

Today's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to....but I don't cause the walking here is awesome!  Did a 3 miler and enjoyed a yummy breakfast at The Flying Biscuit via bicycle.

Our trailer came today and we spent all day unloading and unboxing - we have the sore muscles to prove it too ;-)  But little by little our space is becoming a home.  It took me almost all day to set up the kitchen.   Ben, our son, arrives on Thursday to help us move the heavy pieces.

Karen, our daughter, took us out for my birthday.  We had a lovely, delicious dinner at Murphy's. What a great gift it is to have Karen and Mike in my life to help celebrate the occasion.

More unpacking tomorrow - till then, walk on!

Wonderful

Ahoy from the new home of Walk With Marty.  Today was an "exploring the neighborhood" day.  Our moving trailer arrives tomorrow so we went for a 2 hour walk that ended with a nice lunch in the downtown area.  It's about a 3/4 mile trek, but very pleasant with lots of interesting home architect to look at.

We got the bicycles out and rode a bit too.......can you say hills!  No worries, that's something you get used to and adapt.   Saw some daffodils in bloom on our walk today - hee, hee.  We have to keep reminding ourselves it's still February ;-)

walk on,

Saturday - we're here!

Holla from Decatur GA!   We arrived after a very long day of travel - arrived at our address on Garden Lane about 9:00pm this evening.   I did a very short walk up the street just to say I got one in today!  After unloading a few items from the van we dragged the futon mattress into the apartment and crashed.

Can't wait for daylight to make this space our home and get to know the neighborhood.......and walk, walk, walk!!!  What a great Valentine's present ;-)

walk thru your life with your eyes open,

Great Travel Day

Greetings from Marion Illinois - we are about 7 hours from our final destination in Decatur GA.  It's been a wonderful travel day, traffic was light, weather was good and we even had a stop that included a walk!   Ha!  The mileage begins again ;-)

Tomorrow will be the final push, we arrive in our new hometown, start to unload the van - but wait, first thing I want to do is go for a walk around the neighborhood.  You see, it's been almost 4 solid months that I've had to check the windchill, determine what type of clothing to wear, and then devise a route that would be somewhat safe from ice, snow, and large puddles.   Ahhh, to be able to put on a light jacket and walk right out the door and around the block without wearing ice joggers - can this really be happening?!

Time to get some zzzzzs and then off we go into the wild green yonder ;-)

walk on!

On Our Way!

Ahoy!

Yes, it's me, and I'm back.  After being absent from the blog-o-sphere I thought this would be the best time to start up again.   I did make my virtual walking journey to Atlanta GA sometime around August of 2008 - hurray!

And now Mike and I are actually MOVING to the Atlanta GA area!!   We decided this past Fall to make the move, we have been talking about relocating to a warmer climate, and now here we are in Racine WI and on our way.  We plan to arrive in our new hometown of Decatur GA sometime on Saturday or Sunday.  Decatur is just east of ATL proper.  Our daughter, Karen, has lived in ATL for 4 years and we have been to visit many times.  We feel a very vibrant vibe and want to give it a good year to explore all that ATL has to offer.

Our main focus will be bicycle related, in fact we are creating a new business model By Bicycles.   I will keep you posted on the progress of this new venture at www.bybicycles.blogspot.com  .  We'd like to focus on bicycle education with emphasis on commuter related progress.

I can hardly wait to explore the walking routes in my new city too!

So, that's it for now.  I will be posting on a daily basis - journaling this whole relocation experience and to keep family and friends up to date on what's happening.

enjoy your walk, enjoy your life
